Lusting over the latest MAC fire-red lipstick (you know the one we’re talking about), but just can’t seem to get yourself to shell out those few extra bucks? Or, alternatively, are you a hippy at heart and searching for some natural at-home remedies as opposed to over processed chemically laden products? Consider this, ladies: your comprehensive guide to a revamped beauty routine straight from Mother Nature! Side note: your wallet and your skin will thank us.

Flawless Skin without the Cakeeye-shadow-259176_1280
Say goodbye to commercial cake-face, with this effortlessly easy-to-do foundation recipe (seriously, it’s so easy you’ll cry the next time you pay upwards of $15 for a duplicate of this product). While it seems almost too good to be true, keep in mind that while this particular all natural foundation is relatively light, it may take some tampering with to adjust to your specific needs. The natural ingredients in your all natural homemade foundation actually help your skin out! We won’t keep you any longer from a perfect complexion: here’s what you need to make your own flawless base:

  • Arrowroot Powder
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg

As for the method, you may want to use a lighter hand with the arrowroot powder if you have darker skin (we suggest 1 tsp.), and for lighter skin, use about 1 tbs. Now that you have your base, the color correction comes into play; gradually add in one or a combination of the cocoa powder, cinnamon or nutmeg until you color the foundation to match your skin! Quick tip: adding olive or almond oil to the mixture can also create a “liquid” type of foundation if pressed into a compact. Wa-la!

Rosy Red Lips with Beeswax
A certain well-known brand first coined the power of beeswax in lip products, and they weren’t totally off base. It’s not a secret conventional lipstick can become a tube of harmful chemicals, so honour your lips with a more natural alternative that won’t leave them crackly and dried out. (Be warned: you may also get more make-out invitations). Here’s what you’ll need:lip-gloss-455696_1920

Base Recipe for Lip Products

  • Beeswax pastilles (1 teaspoon)
  • Shea or Cocoa Butter (1 teaspoon)
  • Coconut Oil (1 teaspoon)

If you’re searching for a natural looking lip product than look no further – the above base recipe creates a smooth, clear lipstick that is endlessly moisturizing and completely natural. The following additives can amp up the bombshell factor, however:

Color Add Ins

  • Red Hues: Beetroot powder (eyeball the amount, but 1/8th teaspoon is generally enough), or 1 drop of red food colouring (search for a natural type!)
  • Brown, Tan Hues: Organic Cocoa Powder, Cinnamon or Tumeric (again, eyeball the amount, slowly adding the color – a little goes a long way!)
  • To mattify those lips: Use 1/4th teaspoon of bentonite clay
  • For a nice-smelling balm, add in a drop of your choice of essential oil!summerfield-336672_1280

As for the method, it’s almost as easy as it sounds: melt the base ingredients in a glass-like jar in a small pot of simmering water. Once it is melted; albeit the ingredients melt fairly quickly, you can add in your optional ingredients, and you’re done! Natural beauty at it’s finest.

So, the message is simple, ladies: boycott your expensive, harmful cosmetics and opt for the au natural route! Reduce the toxic load and save money all in a day’s work (or a face full of makeup). Our easy-to-use at home remedies show you just how easily you can toss your expensive cosmetics and replace them with natural homemade alternatives!
